The UCLA Center for Astrobiology was created in 1998 when UCLA became a founding member of the NASA Astro-biology Institute (NAI). The Center for Astrobiology is one of five centers of the UCLA branch of the University of California-wide Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP) and one of twelve lead teams comprising the NASA Astrobiology Institute (NAI).
